. . .  that plastic lenses were first introduced to America by our lab?

               In 1949, McLeod Optical became the exclusive importer and distributor for I-Gard Lenses, from Combined Optical Industries Ltd of Slough, England.  These acrylic lenses were molded from the same basic material used for the windscreens of Britain’s WWII fighter planes.


Did you know . . .

...that the emmetropic human eye is a 60 Dioptor lens system?

     The cornea is 45 D and the crystaline lens is about 14+ D.

     The cornea is a static fixed-focus lens while the crystaline lens is really an autofocus system.

It is the adjustability of the crystaline lens that allows the eye to ACCOMMODATE for differing focal points at near and intermediate.

     Our ability to accommodate changes as we Age:

           at birth:   +22 D of accommodation  ( babies can focus on the tip of their nose! )

              age 14:   +14 D of accommodation

                  age 40:   +4.5 D of accommodation   ( but our arms are now too short to read! )

                      age 70:   +0.25 D of accommodation
